Cronos International - Database / Application Administrator (European Commission)

Tasks

  • Troubleshoot complex issues escalated by Level 1 that involve dealing with Java and PL/SQL code.
  • Debug software code and in particular Java applications; fix software code
  • Troubleshoot complex installations of a multi-Node piece of software
  • Giving feedback to the development teams about the quality and stability of the information systems
  • Providing 2nd Level remote technical support to internal and external end users.
  • Provide support to parties outside the EC in the installation of the software on a variety of platforms (WebLogic, JBoss/WildFly, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
  • Following agreed procedures, respond to requests for assistance by providing information to enable users to resolve their problems.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all issues with resolution and contact details.
  • Installation and routine maintenance of above mentioned system
  • Make continual improvements to procedures and documentation.
  • Providing an effective interface between users and service providers supplying all necessary diagnostic information according to procedures
  • Ensuring technical queries not progressing are escalated
  • Proactively monitor the systems and resolve issue before affecting the end users
  • Participation in technical working groups, progress meetings and meetings with the users
  • Quality Management on incident, problem, change
  • Application installation, configuration and management
  • Database installation, configuration and administration
  • Database monitoring and tuning
  • Monitoring of application usage and performance
  • Access management
  • Writing of database or application procedures manuals, including disaster recovery plans.
  • Database / application incident management
  • Coordination of database and application support

 

Education and technical expertise

  • Good knowledge of application servers and particularly Oracle WebLogic, WildFly
  • Good knowledge of DBMS administration
  • Good knowledge of Oracle DBMS
  • Good knowledge of SQL and particularly PL-SQL
  • Experience with ITIL or similar methodologies
  • Experience in user support
  • Ability to participate in multi-lingual meetings, ease of communication.
  • Capability of integration in an international/multi-cultural environment, rapid self-starting capability and experience in working in team.
  • Able to cope with the fast changing technologies
  • Specific expertise:
    • At least 12 years working experience as second or third line support or on software development
    • At least a well-balanced 12 years working experience in the development and conception of applications, and in particular in the following items:
      • Development and conception of applications with the DG Mare technology stack (see below)
      • 2nd or 3rd line support, including Proven knowledge in end user assistance and support of
  • Information systems:
    • Be solution oriented, trying to provide the best solution at the 2nd level support
    • Strong communication skills, including drafting skills and the ability to team work
    • Critical thinking
    • Dynamic, able to understand others points of view and elaborate on them to find common grounds
    • Ability to cope with fast changing technologies used in application developments
  • Knowledge in one of the following areas is an additional plus:
    • Experience with ITIL support framework
    • Cloud, in particular incident management of Cloud ready applications
  • Apache Maven
  • Apache Camel
  • X.509 certificates
  • Languages:
    • The consultants have to be fluent in English. Any other EU language is an asset
    • Documents will be written in English
