Primary purpose
Our client, a leading organization in the Financial Services sector, is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to provide expert legal guidance on banking and payment services regulations.
The role ensures regulatory compliance (Belgian & EU), advises on legal risk, and supports the development of compliant products, services, contracts, and operations.
Key responsibilities
- Regulatory & compliance advisory
- Monitor and interpret Belgian & EU financial regulations
- Advise on new legislation and regulatory developments
- Assess impact on products, services, and operations
- Business legal support
- Advise teams on legal and regulatory matters
- Identify and mitigate legal and operational risks
- Provide pragmatic, solution-oriented legal guidance
- Contracts & documentation
- Draft, review, and validate contracts and legal documents
- Ensure compliance of customer-facing materials and marketing content
- Support new product and service launches
- Disputes & complaints
- Manage customer disputes and legal claims
- Coordinate with external counsel when needed
- Support efficient resolution strategies
- Stakeholder collaboration
- Act as legal partner to business, compliance, and risk teams
- Support cross-functional projects
- Promote a strong compliance culture
Required qualifications
- Education & experience
- Master's Degree in Law
- 7+ years' experience in banking / financial services
- Strong expertise in banking law and payment services
- Technical skills
- Deep knowledge of Belgian & EU banking regulations
- Strong understanding of payment services frameworks
- Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills
- Strong legal risk assessment capability
- Soft skills

- Languages
- Native level: Dutch or French
- Good command of French and/or Dutch
